Delivery and installation day for this maple spice cabinet. I think the sun through the window will play nicely off the figured maple panels in the door. #woodworking #customfurniture
Happy with my first attempt at an inlay with the CNC machine. The chisels are only an inch and a quarter high, and they still came out crisp with a good amount of detail. #woodworking #cnc #vcarveinlays
Loving how the first coat of finish makes this figured maple panel really pop. This will be one of two panels in the door to a built in spice cabinet for the client. #woodworking #figuredmaple
When you build something by hand with a with a beautiful piece of wood, you get to appreciate it anew each time you use it. That’s something I love about building wood furniture, that beauty is there, even when you are doing something monumentally important. If you are eligible to vote in the us elections, be sure to do so and make your voice heard. #woodworking #customfurniture #walnut #vote
I’ve got all the parts for a maple spice cabinet milled, cut, and resting until tomorrow when I’ll clean up all the milling marks and start cutting some joinery. #woodworking #customfurniture #stickering #maple #figuredmaple
I’m going to be using these 2 gorgeous figured maple boards as the top and bottom panels in a frame and panel door. I can always count on my friends at @edensawwoods to send me really pretty wood. #woodworking #customfurniture #figuredmaple
The curvy ash coffee table base (and risers) are getting a quick water pop before they will be ready for finishing. Now it’s onto the sapele top. #woodworking #customfuniture #whiteash
Loving how this curvy white ash coffee table base is coming together. I spend so much time working with darker woods like walnut and sapele that I forgot just how beautiful and soothing ash can be. #woodworking #customfurniture #whiteash #handtoolwoodworking
The legs for this ash and sapele coffee table are nothing but curves. All the tools come into play to form these - bandsaw, router, and my personal favorite, my trusty spokeshave - nothing beats it when you have run out of flat reference surfaces. #woodworking #ash #handtoolwoodworking #hybridwoodworking
I’m using some templates I created to help me with grain selection, so I can use each part of this beautiful white ash in the perfect place in this table base. One advantage of having your piece hand crafted is that a good artisan will pay attention to these details. #woodworking #grainselection #customfurniture
While I finalize the design on the next couple of projects, I had a few minutes for a quick shop improvement project. While I love my @harveyindustriesintl sliding table, I’ve been annoyed at the lack of easy accommodation for a zero clearance sacrificial fence. I built a few of these from scrap wood, and I’m already much happier, both with cleaner cuts, as well as fewer offcuts accumulating next to the blade. #shopimprovements #smallfixes #woodworking
After 15 months in this workshop, I finally got around to making myself a sign. Watch for it if you are traveling along westlake between downtown and Fremont, and drop me a line if you want to come by for a visit. #woodworking #customfuniture
I put the robot to work on a sign today, I’m looking forward to seeing the final result. #woodworking #customsign
I always love getting photos from clients showing how the pieces I’ve created are fitting into their homes. This client was looking for a way to use a small little niche as a part time workspace, and this sapele folding table was the solution. #woodworking #sapele #customfuniture
I’m adding a new finish option to the lineup, a water based conversion varnish from Renner. In support of that, I’m spraying a whole new set of samples for clients. #woodworking #customfurniture #finishing
We really enjoyed delivering this pair of walnut tables to their forever home yesterday. Always fun to show the finished pieces to a happy client. #woodworking #walnut #customfurniture
Custom furniture isn’t always about large pieces, it’s about designing and building the right piece for the client. I had a ton of fun building this elegant little sapele folding table for a client, It’s both light and sturdy, and should be a great fit for their needs. #woodworking #customfuniture #sapele
Old meets new in the shop today. I used the CNC machine to make a template for this pair of leg braces, but finalizing the shape with a sharp spokeshave will provide the nicest surface. #woodworking #handtools #spokeshave #sapele
Really digging the color in these live edge walnut tops. You never quite know what you are getting until that first coat of finish goes on. These are a matched set of tables, cut from the same slab from my friends at @gobywalnut
Walnut bases are looking sweet in their @rubiomonocoatusa finish. We are getting dangerously close to another completed commission. #woodworking #walnut #customfuniture
